The Leopard Gecko (Eublepharis macularius) is a small, nocturnal lizard native to the arid regions of Pakistan, Afghanistan, and India. Known for its distinctive spotted pattern, which resembles that of a leopard, this gecko’s coloration ranges from yellow to white with black spots, though various color morphs have been bred in captivity. Adult leopard geckos typically grow to about 20-25 cm (8-10 inches) in length.
Unlike most geckos, they have movable eyelids and lack the adhesive toe pads that allow other geckos to climb vertical surfaces. Leopard geckos are insectivores, feeding mainly on crickets, mealworms, and other small insects. They are hardy reptiles and popular in the pet trade due to their docile nature, ease of care, and relatively simple habitat needs. As of 2021, leopard geckos remain one of the most sought-after reptile pets, with breeders continuing to develop a wide array of color morphs and patterns.
